Investing in avalanche education and professional training can be costly – from travel and time off work to course tuition, the expenses can add up quickly. With support from its funders, AIARE is committed to easing the financial burden of avalanche training and education through robust scholarship opportunities.
Applications open September 1 through October 1 for Motorized Rec courses (AIARE 1, AIARE 2, Rescue). For more information and to apply visit avtraining.org/scholarships/#moto.
This scholarship is made possible by your participation in the annual Avalanche Alliance Sweepstakes. The Avalanche Alliance mission is to raise avalanche awareness, facilitate training and improve backcountry safety for motorized users. With a full spectrum of focuses ranging from sponsoring beacon check stations to supporting avalanche training educators, Avalanche Alliance is at the forefront of avalanche safety improvement. The ultimate goal is to have all motorized backcountry users adequately trained. For more information visit avalanche-alliance.org.

But now the question is what length of track do you need to satisfy that itch for balancing the thrill of performing the awesome with the challenge of accomplishing the impossible. After all, the awesome isn’t nearly as impressive if you end up stuck.

For the rider who is more focused on affordable function, the Polaris 850 RMK SP 155 is a very practical option for mountain riding. No, it’s not going to hang with the RMK Khaos Patriot Boost, but its $15,000 sticker price is a lot easier on the checkbook than the $22,700 price for a white-knuckle ride.
Power On
the Catalyst chassis
By Steve Janes
Kerbs
Cat engineers didn’t just go out to build a bigger engine. They designed an engine that would be the perfect match in the Catalyst chassis—fitting snugly in this new centralized design that would take advantage of a lower center of gravity.
Adding
Versatility in 2025
with new RIOT
New for 2025 is the introduction of a removable limiter strap on the RIOT platform that allows riders to customize their ride for their preferred riding style or snow conditions. For a more precise and technical riding style, easily install the limiter strap in less than 15 minutes. Or, if you want the full rowdiness of the RIOT, simply remove the limiter strap, turn the rear shock to soft get ready for the most dirt bike like ride on snow.
Connection Needed
Now those same features are also available to owners of 2023 and 2024 models equipped with the advanced 10.25-inch display by adding the accessory module available at local dealers everywhere.
The heart of any snowmobile is the clutching. That’s what keeps the power supply moving through the drivetrain. That’s why Polaris has gone to great measure to make certain they are getting the most out of the P22 drive clutch.
For 2025, there are three significant improvements with the P22 for the 9R and Patriot Boost engines. Since the bigger engines were putting out more horsepower, Polaris felt it needed to improve the strength and durability of the clutch.

The piston, seals and motion ratio are the same as the previous master cylinder. So you can swap the levers from one to the other. However, you need the latest parking brake lever version to fit on the aluminum master cylinder. It can be retrofitted to the plastic version, but not the other way around.
