Frozen Cow Tag KLIM logo

Registration is now open for the fifth-annual snowbike ride in the rugged Idaho mountains. Join KLIM, Timbersled and Trail Tech for the KLIM Frozen Cow Tag Snowbile Ride March 11.

KLIM takes pride in building riding gear for dedicated snowbike riders who thrive in winter conditions. To celebrate the winter riding season, KLIM is inviting snowbike riders to participate in a one-of-a-kind event set in its own backyard – the Island Park area inside the rugged Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

This unique snowbike-only event will have riders spend a full day in some of KLIM’s favorite local areas, guided by GPS, in search of valuable Cow Tags. Finding these Cow Tags will earn raffle tickets for drawings of more than $10,000 in awesome prizes. Further, individual riders will be challenged to find Cow Tags and post photos next to the cow tag from which a winner will be awarded a $250 KLIM gift card! Even more additional prizes will be announced at the riders meeting.

5 Turbos That Will
Rock Your World
By Steve Janes
If you’re looking for a quaint, affordable snowmobile for leisure rides with your family, you might as well stop reading now. We’re not going there. This is a quick look at five snowmobiles that will take you from zero to speed of light in mere seconds. You just better hope there are no corners coming up in the near future.

Each of the five snowmobile manufacturers (in case you were sleeping last winter, Lynx entered the North American market) produce a top-of-the-line turbo trail sled that delivers an incredible ride … but for a pretty hefty price—they average about $20 grand each. But then, these sleds also produce in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower and are equipped with the latest snowmobile technology.

The five sleds are the Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Thundercat, Polaris Indy VR1 Boost, Ski-doo Renegade Enduro Turbo R, Lynx XTerrain RE Turbo R and Yamaha Sidewinder SRX-LE EPS.

All-In With
FXR
By Brady L. Kay
Rider on snowmobile in Monosuit
FXR goggles on helmet
They finally did it. After years of being told a two-piece setup with jacket and bib pants is not the way you want to ride in the backcountry, FXR released its Maverick Lite Monosuit and convinced me of the error in my ways. As a fan of FXR gear I was content to stick with my old FXR jacket for another season, but looking back now I’m glad I made the switch.

It all started at Hay Days in Minnesota last fall when I got my first glimpse of the Maverick Lite Monosuit. I know this is not true, but sometimes I think if I buy snow gear in September it will somehow make the snow fall sooner. So in an attempt to usher in winter, I decided to go all-in with FXR from head to toe and it started with the Black/Inferno monosuit.

BCA For
The Save
Safety is a priority with Backcountry Access
By Brady L. Kay
A person in snow gear
When it comes to being safe, this isn’t where you want to skimp to try and save a little money. If you ride in the backcountry, avalanche beacons (as well as knowledge of how to use them) are considered mandatory and Backcountry Access or BCA is a great place to start if you don’t have one or are looking to upgrade. Avalanche transceivers are worn close to the body and continuously emit a radio signal that can be picked up by other transceivers in the area. Other riders with transceivers can switch them to “search” mode to locate a buried person’s signal, and with a probe help them pinpoint exactly where to dig.
TRACKER4 BEACON
Known as the BCA workhorse, the Tracker4 avalanche transceiver is considered the manufacturer’s top-of-the-line beacon and it’s one of the toughest you’ll find. The triple antenna and easy-to-use design provide real time display and real-time signal locking/unlocking for when every second counts. No one likes to think about avalanches, but not being prepared for one is inexcusable.
