Arrowhead Engineered Products Acquires Western Power Sports
Arrowhead Engineering Products logo

Arrowhead Engineered Products (Arrowhead) announced the acquisition of Western Power Sports (WPS) on Dec. 20, a powersports distributor known for its exceptional dealer service model and owned powersports brands. WPS serves nearly 12,000 customers with more than 150 sales reps and seven U.S. distribution centers. With both Arrowhead and WPS rooted in powersports and parts distribution, dealers and consumers will continue to enjoy the diverse product offering and exceptional customer service.

According to Nathan Titus, a sales representative for WPS and former X Games athlete, previous owner Craig Shoemaker will enjoy a well deserved retirement.

“He’s had a lot of years and a lot of hard work,” Titus said.

A Life-Changing Ride title
A Life-Changing Ride title
Sometimes it takes one giant pull to get unstuck on the mountain. Well duh, but what’s the metaphorical application to that? What’s the one big pull it takes to get out of a bad situation?

Aaron McCarthy was recovering surgery and down bad. He was invited on a Warrior Ride, an event that takes out injured veterans on snowmobile rides and didn’t really know what he was getting himself into. It turned out to be a life-changing ride.

The day took the group up on top of the Continental Divide. McCarthy got himself up a giant hill and watched as experienced riders took the time to help veterans learn the sport. Riders would get stuck, and the pros would come right over and help them get out.

Sorting Out The MXZs
Perfect Performance Package For The Weekend Warriors
On the typical snowmobile designed for trail riding, there’s a fine line between quality and necessity. You need something that can make even the roughest trail tolerable. But for a little more money, you can purchase something that makes the same rough trail pleasurable. It just depends on what you’re willing to spend and how you like to ride.

That is why Ski-Doo makes four different MXZ packages. And depending on your budget and how you ride, one is perfect for you.

For years the Lynx snowmobile line has been a major contender on the European racetracks. Now the Lynx Rave RE 3500 sport trail model is being offered to the North American market and will likely become a common sight cruising along our vast network of snowmobile trails.

This isn’t a new concept that is fumbling through developmental stages to work out any kinks or flaws in an experimental design. This is a proven snowmobile that has pounded through some of the roughest Scandinavian trails over several decades and now is trying to break into a market that has been dominated by four manufacturers for the past 40 years.

Difference In Similarity

Green is for the RR; orange is for the Limited. Both are great for the trail.

When comparing the Arctic Cat ZR 8000 RR and the ZR 8000 Limited, the first thing you notice is they are two distinct snowmobiles. After all, the RR is green and the Limited is orange … talk about comparing apples and oranges.

But then you take a closer look, you realize both models feature the 8000 C-Tec2 794cc powerplant with identical features and both have APV with tuned pipe, pipe sensor and stainless-steel manifold and muffler. The fluid capacities are the same, clutches are the same. Both have 9-tooth, 2.86 pitch, involutes track drive sprockets. You get the impression that these sleds are basically identical twins.

About Face

What happens when we ask our test rider to hit a certain line and he realizes at the last minute it’s not going to end well for him or his snowmobile? Well the good ones always resort to Plan B. In this case, it meant standing the sled on its end under full throttle and spinning it back around to the direct he came from. It only required him to take a quick hop-over move to reposition his body on the uphill side of the sled to allow him to retain the high side edge of the slope.

Making Tracks
Daniel Boone once said, “I have never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks.” Often, as we snowmobile in the mountains, it is easy to get turned around, especially during a snowstorm. And it’s not like we’re lost … we just aren’t sure what direction we need to go.

This past winter we tried out a new app from onX Offroad that has helped us keep track of where we are during our rides. Simply put, this is one of the best apps we’ve found that is easy to use and very adaptable to collecting the information you may want to have during the course of a ride. And best of all, it stores the information on the cloud so you can retrieve your route from your computer later if you want to see exactly where you went.
