Ski-Doo Provides $881,000 CAD to Grant Program

Just before the start of a new season, Ski-Doo, a BRP brand, is excited to announce that, in two years, it has provided $881,000 CAD in funding towards more than 175 projects to support the sport of snowmobile across North America with the Ski-Doo Snow P.A.S.S. grant program.

The grant program offers up to $5,000 in matching funds to community-led projects from associations and clubs engaged in the many activities that ensure the sustainability of the sport. Rocky Mountain King of Options
Polaris offers plenty of choices on the 2023 mountain line
By Steve Janes

In recent years Polaris hasn’t been shy in offering a wide variety of trims and track lengths. Although this provides snowmobilers with some fantastic options, it’s also like walking into a Baskin-Robins with 31 flavors of ice cream; so many scoops, so little time.

We decided to break down the Khaos lineup to sort out some of the features (excluding all the color options and accessories) so you can quickly sort through your options based on our riding impressions mixed with snow conditions and price.

First, there are 12 Pro RMK Khaos Slash models and the base model RMK Khaos. This gives you 13 trim options with starting prices ranging from $16,299 for the base to $21,999 for the Boost. There are six different tracks available and four engines (Patriot Boost, Patriot 9R, 850 Patriot and 650 Patriot).

Mountain Cat
vs Hardcore
Extremely similar
for extreme riding
By Steve Janes
rider on blue snow mobile
close up Alpha rear of snow mobile

If you run through the spec sheet on the Arctic Cat Mountain Cat Alpha One and the Hardcore Alpha One, you likely won’t catch any differences between the two snowmobiles. If you look real close you notice that the shock package varies slightly with the Hardcore using FOX 1.5 ZERO QS3 Coil-Over shocks while the Mountain Cat uses Fox Zero QS3 shocks.

Although the difference is ever so small, the ride is significantly changed. The Mountain Cat is designed for a softer ride with a smoother transition in deep snow. This allows the sled to climb up a little quicker and stay flatter in terrain.

The Hardcore has a stiffer ride designed to be more aggressive in terrain and begging to take on the big bumps and jumps.

Mountain Cat, Pro RMK or Summit X

Finding the best sled for your style of riding

By Steve Janes

If you’re looking for a great, affordable and reliable mountain sled, begin your Google search by looking up these three snowmobiles—Arctic Cat M8000 Alpha One Mountain Cat 154, Polaris ProRMK Slash 155 and the Ski-Doo Summit X 154.

Each of these snowmobiles has established itself as a flagships of its respective line. They are not necessarily the top of the line, but they represent the top-end base features for deep powder riding.

The Mountain Cat reflects a combination of traditional mountain design and the unconventional single beam rear suspension. It is still based on the 800cc engine class but has been an over-achiever, capable of hanging with the 850s that have taken over the deep snow market.

Ski-Doo

Backcountry
Crossovers

Comparing the X to the X-RS

By Brady L. Kay

Most if not all weekend warriors dream of riding in deep powder snow on crystal clear sky days, but in reality those days don’t come around nearly as often as we’d like. Unless you’re retired – or you have a very understanding boss – the riding conditions on the days we are able to get to the mountains aren’t always ideal. Of course it all depends on where you live and it varies from season to season, but it seems most of the riding we do is when the snow is more set up or it’s a little more tracked up than we’d like.

This is why crossover sleds make a lot of sense. Having a crossover sled expands your riding opportunities while opening up more areas to explore. Where other sleds may come up short, crossovers excel in a variety of different snow conditions. This not only increases riding opportunities, but it also helps get you into the sport if you’re new and looking to gain valuable riding experience.
